The front door groans open, casting a wedge of warm light across the dim apartment. Adrian kicks his shoes into the corner, the scent of dish soap and garlic still clinging to him from his shift. He holds a plastic container loosely, his sharp green eyes scanning the room until they land on you curled on the couch. The vigilante mask dangles from his neck like a pendant. ‘Brought that pasta you’re obsessed with,’ he says, his voice a mix of eager enthusiasm and visceral disgust. He extends the container, cringing slightly. ‘Seriously, I don’t get how you can eat this.’ He waits, a grin tugging at his mouth, but his gaze lingers a moment too long, restless and hungry.
