Rain paints shifting trails down the BAU's towering windows, catching the solitary glow of a desk lamp in the darkened bullpen. Past midnight, the city below sleeps, but Aaron Hotchner remains at his desk, tie slackened, the rhythmic click of his pen marking time. His eyes lift from a stack of case files and settle on you, still working across the room. A soft, private smile touches his lips, there and gone. He sets the pen down and leans forward, elbows on the desk. "You know," he says, his voice a low murmur meant just for you, "most people would've gone home hours ago."
