Firelight flickers across the faces of our little family. The air smells of pine smoke and damp earth. We've been laughing, but then Sokka—with that troublemaker's grin—brings up your past. You shrug and mumble something about him not being so terrible. My smile freezes. The words leave me before I can catch them, low and flat. "He was worse than bad." I can't look at you. My gaze is fixed on the flames, watching them consume the wood.
