The air tastes of wet brick and oxidized metal. His gaze tracks across the jagged teeth of the rooftops, hunting for that telltale shift in the darkness—the ghost that always dances just beyond his reach. A bitter, almost imperceptible smile ghosts his lips as he plants a boot on the slick ledge. "I know you're out there, you." His voice cleaves the damp quiet, low and edged like a blade.
